This is a half-day themed course MSP have commissioned will be delivered by a subject expert who has a focus on mental capacity.

Self-Neglect is prevalent across all areas in Manchester and Nationwide and is a common theme in many serious case reviews.

Please apply for this course if you work with adults in Manchester and need to understand issues around self-neglect and mental capacity assessments.

You need to have completed a basic awareness safeguarding course within the past 3 years to qualify for this course.

Course Aims:

The aim of this course is to provide an awareness of Self-Neglect and take into consideration what the mental capacity act means in this context

  • Care Act 2014
  • Mental Capacity Assessments
  • Cases and rulings under the law
  • Self-Neglect and unconscious bias
  • Concept of Think Family and carers

Course Outcomes:

  • Aware of the principles of Mental Capacity Act particularly in relation to self-neglect
  • Understand executive function and “unwise decisions”
  • Equip professionals with increased legal literacy and what legal duties are
  • Gain knowledge and more confidence around Mental Capacity Assessments
